Oak Meadow’s Algebra 1 course encourages students to develop a strong foundation in algebraic thinking while exploring connections between math and the world around them. Using Algebra 1 by Elayn Martin-Gay (Pearson, 2016), this course blends structured skill-building with creative, real-world applications to make learning meaningful and engaging.
Students will work through self-corrected exercise sets to reinforce their understanding and prepare for chapter tests. Lessons include hands-on explorations that encourage students to connect new concepts with prior knowledge, analyze mathematical ideas through historical and cultural perspectives, apply algebra artistically, and examine real-world and financial applications.
Topics covered include:
- Graphs, functions, and inequalities
- Systems of linear equations
- Polynomials and rational expressions
- Radicals and quadratic equations
- Trigonometric ratios
After purchasing MyLab Math (will be available April 1st) students will have access to:
- Video tutorials that walk through key concepts step by step
- Interactive practice exercises with instant feedback
- Guided examples and worked solutions to build confidence and problem-solving skills
- Personalized study plans to track progress and focus on areas that need extra support
- Real-world applications that connect algebra to everyday life
- Progress assessments to measure understanding along the way
