Course description
Oak Meadow’s Geometry course introduces students to the fundamental principles of geometric reasoning, encouraging them to explore the connections between mathematics and the world around them. Using Geometry by Elayn Martin-Gay (Pearson, 2016) alongside MyLab Math, students engage with interactive tools, real-world applications, and creative problem-solving approaches to develop a strong understanding of geometric concepts.
Students will practice skills using self-corrected exercise sets to reinforce their understanding and prepare for chapter tests. Lessons include hands-on explorations that encourage students to connect new concepts with prior knowledge, analyze geometric ideas through historical and cultural perspectives, apply geometry artistically, and examine real-world applications.
Topics covered include:
- Reasoning, proofs, and problem-solving
- Angle relationships, congruence, and similarity
- Parallel and perpendicular lines
- Transformations, coordinate geometry, and constructions
- Properties of triangles and quadrilaterals
- Right triangles, trigonometry, and the Pythagorean theorem
- Area, surface area, and volume
- Circles, conic sections, and their properties
