Course Overview
This single-semester course explores the genres of science fiction and fantasy and looks at themes of identity, gender, race, social structures, and survival. Students examine how authors create fictional story worlds by using tools such as narrative structure, setting details, character development, tone, and perspective. Students then apply various writing skills and techniques to create a work of fiction that features their own detailed, believable story world. (This course replaces our previous Women's Literature: Worlds of Fantasy and Science Fiction course.)
